About Me
I’m Lula Cucchiara, a filmmaker and photographer mostly drawn to subcultures and the people inside them. The way people exist in their own worlds, their rhythms, their style, the little rituals that don’t get staged or explained. That’s usually where I start.
Commercially I shoot somewhere between documentary, portraiture and fashion, but I’m not really chasing polish. I’m more into what feels lived-in.
I own a colour darkroom studio in Alexandria in Sydney, where I hand print most of my work. That process is a big part of how I see things. Slowing it down, letting imperfections stay, treating images as physical objects, not just files. It keeps everything grounded.
Visually, I lean on observation, natural light, and a kind of quiet closeness. Whether it’s stills or motion, I care about how something feels when you sit with it for a second. Not just the image, but the mood it leaves behind.
When I move across commercial, editorial, and personal work, the approach stays pretty consistent.
Keep it honest, keep it human, don’t overwork it.
